ProgressiveThink.com is proud and pleased to add Kathy S. Hartwell, MA, as a regular guest blogger category.

Kathy will be contributing to ProgressiveThink.com on a regular basis under her own blog category entitled Chew On This With K.B. Hartwell. To read any of Kathy’s insightful blog posts, just select “Chew On This” from the drop down menu under “Categories” on the main page of ProgressiveThink.com.

ProgressiveThink.com, with over 47,000 Twitter followers, has risen to the top 100 of the “Top Conservatives On Twitter” (#TCOT) according to Kithbridge.com (as of July 28, 2010).

Kathy (K. B.) Hartwell holds a Master of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration in Creative Writing and an Emphasis in English. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities, and while attending the college, she was nurtured by several English professors to pursue her writing skills. Their encouragement catapulted her love of writing to a more professional level. Hartwell is Adjunct Instructor at Mountain State University located in Beckley, West Virginia, where she teaches both traditional and online English composition and writing courses. Her unconventional style of teaching motivates learners to enjoy doing what would otherwise be deemed unpleasant—academic writing and research.

Her accolades include being (both past and present) a lifetime member of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society; Region 4 Representative for West Virginia Writers, Inc.; Mountain State University’s 2004 Graduate Student of the Year; Editorial Award for The Bluefieldian; and a writing award from Bluefield State College for her contributions published in the student’s newspaper.

Hartwell’s editorial positions have been as Editor for The Bluefieldian; Editorial Director for AuthorMe.com; and Co-fiction Editor for T-Zero Magazine. In addition, she worked as a fiction manuscript critiquer for Inspiration for Writers. Her published writings are numerous and varied (from poetry, to short stories, to editorials, to being a columnist for a local newspaper). She has written two novels (the latest, This Child of Mine was recently published by Cook Communication). Ms. Hartwell was featured as November 2004 Author of the Month for Mountain Echoes, an Appalachian literary magazine. She wrote book reviews for Franco Antonetti’s autobiographical book, I Wouldn’t Die, and Linda Alexander’s book, Weekends in New England. Her other writings are published in both online and traditional, in educational and literary magazines, newspapers, and collegiate printings.

Her love of the Appalachian Mountains has been her motivational force in capturing the moral fiber that connects southern Appalachian history to modern events. K. B. is an author who strives to bring the best of the Appalachian culture to the rest of the nation and the world. She states, “I want to show the best (and accurate) side of West Virginia and her people in my writings. I can never predict what my future writings will produce, but I can assure everyone that they will reflect the finest facets of this unique culture that I call home.”
