The Pretty Ones
Times are rough. People think they are tired of past politics. They feel that their economic world is crashing down upon them and something has to be done about it. Almost as if out of no where comes a bunch of very young and pretty looking people, with constant smiles on their faces; sounding good; telling the masses they want nothing in return but to give the people hope. They take advantage of a weary public by promising folks better times ahead with positive change.
Without further examination into who are these pretty ones, the masses and the media engage in a slobbering love affair with this group. A group of pretty ones that are telling people, not the truth, but what the people want to hear. But at the same time there are some in the press who are not so sure of these pretty ones; they ask questions. But in doing so are told to “show some respect.”
Those that openly criticized the pretty ones; that question the pretty ones as to where they came from and who are their associates are denigrated and treated as deranged, unbalanced people.
There are some who would say that I just described the ascendancy of Barack Hussein Obama (and his Chicago group) into the White House.
Others would say I just described the plot line for a new remake of the TV show called “V” by ABC TV.
Whether the writers of the show intended it or not, it is very hard to miss the metaphor of the show.
“V” (standing for Visitors) are really reptilian-like creature who look like us; sound like us; are prettier than us and make promises of peace and prosperity which are basically too good to be true. Then there are the resistance fighters. Again, the metaphor holds strong in that we can see these same folks being today’s Tea Party, fighting against the false promises of the Obama Administration; trying to expose it for its lies and associations in much the same way the folks are fighting against the “V”.
And before I forget, the leader of the “V” promises Universal Health Care to all citizens of earth. Whoa!
Tessler likes the reasonable science fiction genre. Star Trek with its “humanity improvement” theme and Battlestar Galactica’s fight with the evil empire run by the Cylons. How can you overlook the “God metaphor” whenever it is said “May the force be with you”?
So when ABC announced it was remaking a 1980′s show called “V”, I was looking forward to seeing the show. It airs on Tuesday nights. The first show hit the airwaves, interestingly enough, on the same Tuesday that Americans in New Jersey and Virgina repudiated Obamanomics.
And the show’s trailer preview had these things to say about the alien visitors, the pretty ones:
- “Just be sure not to ask us anything that would paint us in a negative light.” (says the leader of the “V” the press)
- “The world’s in bad shape – who wouldn’t welcome a savior?”
- “Thousands are flocking to see the mother ship in person”
- “We’re all so quick to jump on the bandwagon, but before we get on let’s at least examine…”
- “Gratitude can morph into worship”
- “You two are obsessed with the V’s”
- “You know what the V’s – they call it spreading hope”
- “If you could speak to the protesters, what would you say? That embracing change is never easy, but the reward for doing so can be far greater than anything you can imagine”…”They gain trust when all they are really doing is positioning themselves as the saviors of mankind”
- “They are arming themselves with the most powerful weapon out there: devotion.”
- it’s not worship, “they call it spreading hope.”
Even if you’ve seen the show, watch the trailer.
