Sarah Palin: Godmother of the New Reaganism
It had its seeds in the McCain Presidential run. John McCain is a great American. He suffered greatly because he was an American in the hands of the brutal Viet Cong and North Vietnam. No one should ever question his bravery nor his devotion to the country he loves.
But I do question his moderate political stands. And when he selected Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, our first response was “Governor who?”
But her electrifying acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention this past summer did in 60 minutes what John McCain couldn’t do in his entire political career: galvanize a rock solid group of Americans who want less, not more, government. A group that wanted nothing to do with Obama as they were very suspicious of his associations. And, as it turned out, rightfully so.
In a single moment, on that stage, in front of millions upon millions of people watching from their homes and in the convention center, Governor Sarah Palin became the Godmother of the New Reaganism.
But what turned out to be so disappointing about the McCain candidacy were 2 things:
1. His vote for the corrupt bail out, and
2. His utter refusal to go after Obama’s associations with the radical left.
The bright spot, however, was Sarah Palin. You couldn’t get enough of her speeches. You couldn’t watch her too much. You felt inspired; awed and energetic all at the same time when listening to her speak.
Then came the disaster we all feared. Obama got elected. And as we suspected, he turned out to be the socialist we thought he was. In fact, he’s probably even more of a socialist than any of us suspected. And we need to get him out of office in 2012.
From all of this sprang the Tea Party Movement and from an ideological standpoint, what I call the New Reaganism.
No more are American Republicans going to accept a candidate just because they have an “R” before their name. Because of Sara Palin and the New Reagansim that has sprung up since the election of Obama, people don’t care if it is Republican, Democrat or simply Independent. People want Americans first, party label second.
Fred Thompson, a 2008 GOP presidential candidate, asked this of former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, a Republican who endorsed the RHINO, Dede Scozzafava, for the 23rd Congressional Seat in New York, on Thompson’s radio program:
“Are we saying that as Americans you’ve got to have an ‘R’ by your name before you vote for them? Where do you draw the line?” he continued. “If somebody with a record like this gets our seal of approval, regardless, only because she’s got an ‘R’ by the name… You know, just because we’re Republicans doesn’t mean that we’re deaf, dumb, and blind.”
Fred to Newt: We’re not ‘deaf, dumb’
What eventually proved to be Newt Gingrich’s total embarrassment was shortly after Scozzafava dropped out of that congressional race, she turned around and endorsed the Democrat. Do you know what R.I.N.O. means, Mr. Gingrich?
From Conservatives take aim at leaders, Charlie Crist, other races Politico writes: “Many of the activists who helped knock out Scozzafava told POLITICO that the passion is building despite — and sometimes to spite — Republican leaders in Washington.”
“I don’t give a crap about party,” said Jennifer Bernstone, a tea party organizer for Central New York 912, which helped to lead the anti-Scozzafava charge. “Grass-roots activists don’t care about party.”
Are you listening Republicans? Are listening Democrats?
The New Reaganism is here. It is alive. It is well. And it will show more dramatic results tomorrow and in the days to come. And it will culminate in the New Reaganism finally taking back this country, completely, in 2012.

I usually like Newt, but this time he has egg on his face. He was saying we can’t expect the Republican party to be uber conservative or it will never survive. But I think you’re right – we don’t care if the Republican party survives, not if it is going to remain full of as many left leaning rinos there now. Call it what you will – the Conservative party, the Reagan party, but it’s time for true conservatives to make their way to the fore again. We have compromised our ideals for far too long.
