October has been the deadliest month ever in the Afghan War. 8 US troops die; new deadliest month in Afghan war
And still, Obama waits.
Back on September 22, 2009, I predicted this would happen in my blog piece, A Slow Bleed.
Two months and the President still has not made a decision. Two months and soldiers continue to die without additional support. Two months and the war in Afghanistan has turned into a situation that lacks so little focus, direction and comprehension that a U.S. official has resigned over the lack of direction of the Afghan war. U.S. official resigns over Afghan war
He is a Foreign Service officer and former Marine captain and he says that he no longer knows why his nation is fighting.
Mr. President, you have failed to give that young man a reason for being in Afghanistan; failed to give us all what your sense of direction is for the Afghanistan war. The Foreign Service officer’s resignation has your Administration panicked for he is, in his own words “…not some peacenik, pot-smoking hippie who wants everyone to be in love,” His name is Matthew Hoh and he’s a former Marine Corps captain who said this, upon his resignation from your war, about his experience in Iraq:
“There are plenty of dudes who need to be killed, [in reference to al-Qaeda and the Taliban]. I was never more happy than when our Iraq team whacked a bunch of guys.”
But Mr. President you are to blame for this resignation. This has become your war now. And so you must take responsibility for all that happens. You are to blame for the needless deaths of our American soldiers because of your hesitancy. You are to blame for appearing so weak willed, so spineless and so utterly unconcerned about the war on terror, that war has now lost its focus. Because you are not focused.
” Brave men and women should not die because Obama cannot lead; because Obama does not believe.”
Pull Out of Afghanistan
“A slow bleed? This is sad. This is humiliating to all Americans. Fight the war like an American, Mr. President, or get the hell out.”
A Slow Bleed
